Harrison County Trail
Note: The north end of the Harrison County Trail, including the Spelter trailhead, is closed because of environmental problems at an old industrical site that was served by the old rail line.
Getting to the Rail-Trail from Nearby Cities
- Charleston, WV Follow I-79 North about 120 miles to US Rt. 50 West (exit 119). Turn left (west) at exit, continue on US Rt. 50 West about 4 miles to West Virginia Avenue exit. See detailed trailhead directions below.
- Pittsburgh, PA Follow I-79 South to US Rt. 50 West (exit 119). Turn right (west) at exit, continue on US Rt. 50 West about 4 miles to West Virginia Avenue exit. See detailed trailhead

- Elkins, WV Follow US Rt. 33 West about 50 miles to I-79 North. Follow I-79 North about 20 miles to US Rt. 50 West (exit 119). Turn right (west) at exit, continue on US Rt. 50 West about 4 miles to West Virginia Avenue exit. See detailed trailhead directions below.
- Parkersburg, WV Follow US Rt. 50 East about 65 miles to Clarksburg. Leave US 50 in Clarksburg at West Virginia Avenue exit. See detailed trailhead directions below.
Finding the Trailheads
- Clarksburg From US Rt. 50 exit to West Virginia Avenue. Turn left on West Virginia Ave., then right on N. 19th Street, continuing until past Marino Brothers, turn left on Williams Ave. Continue on Williams Ave to N. 25th St. Turn right on N 25th St., continue on N. 25th St. to the trailhead, just before the dead end. Parking is on left, near the Rolland Glass Plant. There are signs leading to the trailhead from Rt. 50.
- Spelter Please note that access to the rail trail from Spelter is temporarily prohibited. Access from Spelter is not expected to be available for several years. From US Rt. 50 exit at Pike St. (US Rt. 19). Follow US Rt. 19 North about 6 miles toward. Spelter is across the first bridge to the right crossing the West Fork River. After crossing the bridge, the trailhead is right (south) of the bridge.
